Pond Fountains With Lights

A pond is easy to see at midday and easy to miss after dark. Lighting keeps the spray visible from the house, patio, or clubhouse so the display keeps working through the evening.

A floating fountain also agitates the surface, which can help reduce stagnant areas and add the sound of moving water. That surface movement is a useful side benefit, and it is not a substitute for deeper aeration in a pond with low-oxygen problems.

Fountains with lights tend to suit:

• ponds viewed from a home, patio, or clubhouse
• entrance ponds and HOA or park frontage
• golf courses, marinas, and commercial properties
• ponds where appearance matters as much as water movement

The main choice is whether the pattern or the water movement should lead the decision.

Choose a decorative display fountain when

The look of the spray is the main goal. Multi-tiered and multi-nozzle models such as the Scott Aerator Amherst, Clover, Atriarch, Triad, and Great Lakes, and the Vertex tiered, geyser, ring, and funnel styles, are built around the pattern first.

Choose an aerating fountain when

Moving and mixing surface water matters as much as the look of the spray. The Kasco VFX is built around a broad V-shaped pattern that pushes water at the surface.

The Scott Aerator North Star and DA-20 Display aerators do similar work with different patterns: a tall, narrow V spray and a trumpet display.

Choose a solar model when

There is no power near the water. The Scott Aerator DA-20 Solar runs from solar panels instead of an outlet, which suits remote ponds where running electrical service would be difficult.

Match the scale of the display to the pond. A fountain that is too small reads as a dim dot in a large pond at night, while one that is too large can overspray the banks in wind.

Height and spread

Vertex models in this group show display heights from about 18 to 45 feet depending on the model, and some patterns spread as well as they rise. Check the height listed for the model you are considering and compare it with the distance you will be viewing from.

Changing the pattern

Some models let you swap nozzles instead of buying a new fountain. The Scott Aerator Great Lakes comes with five interchangeable brass nozzles, and the Triad comes with three (Gusher, Skyward, and Cambridge) that can be swapped without tools.
