Why put a copper fountain in the garden?

How to choose the right size and style
Height and scale
These sculptures run from about 30 inches to 70 inches tall. Match the height to what surrounds it: a 30 to 40 inch piece sits comfortably in a patio corner or planted bed, while the 60 and 70 inch trees are built to read from across a lawn or driveway.
The largest pieces also carry more sound, so they suit open lawns and driveways better than a tight courtyard. In a small space, a big sculpture can sound louder than you want.
Foliage style
The leaf architecture sets the mood:
- Weeping willow for long, hanging fronds
- Japanese maple and creeping maple for broad, layered leaves
- Sequoia for finer, needle-like foliage
- Iris flower for copper leaves with colored hand-blown glass blossoms (blue or red)
Budget
Handcrafted copper sculpture is an investment, and prices vary from one model to the next rather than in step with height. Set a height range first, then compare the pieces in it on price, detail, and sound.
Installation and placement
Three things affect where a copper tree fountain can go.
- Room for the basin. Every kit includes a basin, so plan for the space it takes at the spot, not just the footprint of the sculpture.
- A level base. The basin, water, and copper piece need flat, stable ground so nothing tilts as it settles.
- Power. The kit includes a pump, so the fountain needs to stand within reach of an outdoor power source.

Does a copper fountain come with everything needed to run?
Yes, these Blue Thumb fountains ship as complete kits with a basin, pump, pre-filter bag, tubing, and fittings, and selected models add a ball valve. That means you are not matching a pump and basin to a separate sculpture.
Will copper change color outdoors?
Yes. Copper left in the weather darkens and settles into deeper brown tones over time as it weathers. That change is expected, and for many buyers it is part of the reason to choose copper. Avoid abrasive cleaners if you want the finish to age on its own.
What size works for a patio versus an open lawn or driveway?
For a patio corner or planted bed, look at the 30 to 40 inch pieces. For a lawn, courtyard center, or driveway where the fountain needs to be seen and heard from a distance, look at the 50 to 70 inch models.
How does water get up to the leaves?
The pump sits in the basin and pushes water up through tubing to the branches, where it flows out over the hand-cut leaves and drips back into the basin to be recirculated. Water that reaches the leaves returns to the same basin rather than spilling out over the rim.
