Will a new Kasco unit work with the power cord from my old Kasco?
Sometimes, but check the voltage and motor size before you count on it. Kasco cords are matched to the unit's voltage and amperage, so a cord sized for a 1/2 HP 120V unit will not safely carry a 5 HP 240V motor. If the old unit failed at the motor rather than the cord, replacing just the motor is usually the cheaper path, and replacements from 1/2 HP through 7.5 HP are stocked on this page. Send the model number off the old unit and we will confirm the match before you order.
What voids a Kasco warranty?
The three fastest ways to void Kasco coverage are cutting or splicing the power cord, running the unit without a GFCI-protected circuit, and buying from an unauthorized seller. Kasco honors its warranty only on units sold through authorized dealers like Pond Haven, so a gray-market listing can leave you with no claim at all. Field splices are the one we see most often. If the cord will not reach, order the longer cord option rather than extending the one you have.
What size wire do I need to run out to the fountain?
Your electrician sizes the wire from three numbers: the unit's voltage, its full-load amperage, and the distance from the panel. A 150-foot run to a 1 HP 120V unit is not the same problem as 150 feet to a 5 HP 240V unit, because the 240V unit draws less current and tolerates the distance better. That is exactly why Kasco wires the larger units for 240V. Give us the model and the run length and we will send the amperage draw so your electrician has what they need. Is the cord length measured to the water's edge or to where the fountain sits?
Measure to where the unit will actually float, not to the shoreline. The cord runs from the shore-side outlet, down the bank, across the pond bottom, and up to the float, so the water crossing is often the longest part of the run. Add slack for the anchor lines and for the unit shifting in wind. Are light kits available, and can I get one without color changing?
Yes to both. Kasco offers stainless steel and composite LED kits in fixed white as well as RGB color-changing versions, so you can skip the color feature if you only want the fountain lit at night. Lights need their own power run and do not share the fountain's cord, so plan the second circuit or a combined control panel at the same time as the fountain rather than after. Kit size follows the unit, with larger fountains taking the 6-fixture kits.
What size Kasco unit do I need for my pond?
Kasco covers water up to 8 acres, and the size depends on which product line the job calls for. The J Series fountain reaches 8 acres, Robust-Aire 6, the VFX and surface aerator 5, and the Home Series 2. Acreage alone will not settle it. Depth decides whether a surface unit or a diffused system is right, and irregular shape, coves, or a heavy fish load all push the number up. Why is Kasco more expensive than cheaper brands?
Kasco costs more up front and returns it in serviceability. The motors are sealed for continuous duty rather than intermittent use, and when one eventually fails you replace the motor alone instead of the whole unit. Nozzles, mounts, and control panels are separately replaceable too. If the unit will only run a few hours a day for looks, a cheaper fountain can be the right call.
