The Benefits of Pond Fountains
Pond fountains offer numerous benefits for your outdoor space, including:
Aesthetic Appeal
A well-chosen pond fountain can dramatically enhance the beauty of your landscape, creating an inviting and soothing atmosphere for you and your guests.
Water Aeration
Pond fountains help oxygenate the water, promoting a healthy ecosystem for fish and aquatic plants, and reducing the growth of algae.
Mosquito Control
By continuously circulating the water, pond fountains discourage mosquito breeding, keeping your outdoor space more comfortable and bug-free.
Noise Reduction
The soothing sounds of a pond fountain can help mask unwanted noise, such as traffic or noisy neighbors, creating a peaceful oasis in your backyard.
Types of Pond Fountains
There are several types of pond fountains available, each with its own unique features and benefits. Some popular options include:
Floating Fountains
Floating fountains are a versatile and cost-effective choice, as they can be easily installed and moved around your pond. They come in various spray patterns, from single-jet to multi-tiered displays.
Submersible Fountains
Submersible fountains are installed beneath the water's surface, creating a more subtle and natural-looking water feature. They can be combined with underwater lighting for a stunning nighttime display.
Solar-Powered Fountains
Solar-powered fountains harness the power of the sun to operate, making them an eco-friendly and energy-efficient choice. They are ideal for smaller ponds and require minimal maintenance.
Custom-Designed Fountains
For those seeking a truly unique centerpiece, custom-designed fountains allow you to create a one-of-a-kind water feature tailored to your specific needs and preferences.
Selecting the Perfect Pond Fountain
To choose the ideal pond fountain for your outdoor space, consider the following factors:
- Pond Size and Depth: Measure the size and depth of your pond to ensure the fountain you select is compatible and provides adequate water circulation.
- Spray Pattern: Choose a spray pattern that complements your landscape design and provides the desired visual and auditory effect.
- Power Source: Consider the available power sources, such as electricity or solar power, and their proximity to your pond.
- Budget: Determine your budget and select a fountain that meets your aesthetic and functional needs without breaking the bank.
- Maintenance Requirements: Opt for a fountain that has minimal maintenance needs and is easy to clean, ensuring its longevity and continued performance.
Installing Your Pond Fountain
Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your pond fountain. Follow these general steps:
-
Select the Location: Choose a central location
in your pond with adequate depth and clearance for the fountain's spray pattern.
-
Assemble the Fountain: Follow the manufacturer's instructions to assemble the fountain and any additional components, such as lighting or aeration devices.
-
Install the Power Source: If using an electrical fountain, ensure a GFCI-protected outlet is available nearby. For solar-powered fountains, position the solar panel in a location with maximum sunlight exposure.
-
Secure the Fountain: Depending on the type of fountain, you may need to anchor it to the pond bottom or attach it to a floatation device. Ensure the fountain is stable and level.
-
Connect the Fountain to the Power Source: Carefully connect the fountain to its power source, ensuring all cords are properly secured and protected from water damage.
-
Test the Fountain: Turn on the fountain to ensure it is functioning correctly and adjust its positioning as needed for optimal performance.
-
Maintaining Your Pond Fountain
Regular maintenance is essential to keep your pond fountain looking and functioning at its best. Follow these maintenance tips:
-
Clean the Fountain: Periodically remove debris and algae from the fountain and its components to prevent clogging and ensure proper water flow.
-
Inspect the Pump: Regularly check the pump for wear and tear, replacing any worn parts as needed to maintain optimal performance.
-
Monitor Water Levels: Maintain consistent water levels in your pond to prevent the pump from running dry and causing damage.
-
Winterize Your Fountain: If you live in a region with freezing temperatures, remove and store your fountain during the winter months to prevent damage from ice formation.
-
Perform Routine Inspections: Regularly inspect your fountain for any signs of damage, such as cracks or leaks, and address any issues promptly to extend the life of your water feature.
What is the best way to choose a fountain?
When it comes to choosing a pond fountain, it's important to consider your goals and priorities. Do you want to improve the aeration and circulation of your pond, or are you more interested in adding visual appeal? Or, do you want both?
If aeration is your primary concern, you may want to consider one of our aerating fountains, which are specifically designed to circulate a high volume of water.
On the other hand, if aesthetics are your primary focus, you have a wide range of options to choose from. Keep in mind that it's important to ensure that your pond meets the minimum depth requirements and that your fountain doesn't exceed the capacity of your pond. You can find display dimensions for each of our fountain products on their respective product pages.
It's also worth noting that fountains and surface aerators are only effective at aerating water up to about 6 feet deep
What is the right horsepower choice for a fountain?
The horsepower of a pond fountain refers to the size of the motor, which determines the size of the water spray pattern. It's important to make sure that your pond is deep enough to accommodate the chosen fountain and that the water spray won't spill over the sides of the pond. Our fountains are recommended for use in ponds that are at least a quarter acre in size or larger, depending on the shape of the pond. When selecting the horsepower of your fountain, you should consider both your budget and the desired size of the water spray pattern.
Here are the different horsepowers we carry:
1/3 HP Pond Fountains
1/2 HP Pond Fountains
3/4 HP Pond Fountains

Should I hire someone for my fountain installation?
If you do not already have a power source installed near your pond, it is recommended that you hire a licensed electrician to set one up. Once the power source is in place, our fountains are relatively simple to install. They are designed to float in the middle of the pond, supported by nylon rope and cinder blocks on two sides, and powered by a submersible cord that plugs into the power source at the edge of the pond. Some customers choose to install the fountains themselves in order to save money, but it's important to consider the resources you have available before making this decision.
Is it okay to leave my fountain in the water over the winter?
Scott Aerator fountains are the only type that are able to operate during the winter months. When the weather is cold, you have the option to either run them continuously or turn them off completely. Once the ice melts, you can turn the fountains back on again. These fountains are designed to function in all seasons.
