Why add a fountain to a pond?
A fountain gives still water motion and a visible focal point, and it keeps the surface layer moving. Surface agitation helps limit stagnant film and odors and adds oxygen to the upper water, which supports fish and beneficial bacteria.
Fountains are most often used on:
- ponds where appearance matters as much as water movement
- properties, HOAs, parks, and golf courses where the pond is seen daily
- shallow to medium-depth ponds
- water that tends to go still in warm weather
A fountain mainly works the upper water. If your pond is deep and bottom oxygen is the concern, compare our pond aerators instead.

The main decision is what you want the water to do and look like.
Decorative display fountains
Tall tiers, geysers, arches, and trumpet patterns built for visual impact and sound. The Scott Aerator Amherst, Clover, and Atriarch and the Vertex tiered models fall in this group.
Choose a display fountain when the pattern and height are the reason you are buying.
Aerating fountains
Wider, lower V-shaped or trumpet sprays that move more water and work the surface harder. This includes the Kasco VFX, the Scott Aerator DA-20 and North Star, the Vanguard Typhoon, and the Bearon Aquatics Power House.
Choose an aerating fountain when circulation and oxygenation matter as much as the display.
Solar-powered fountains
Models like the Scott Aerator DA-20 Solar and the Airmax SolarSeries run without shore power.
Choose a solar fountain when the pond is far from electricity or trenching a line is not practical. Solar panels need open sun, so shaded sites limit what they can do.
How to choose size and pattern
PondHaven carries models from 1/2 HP through 30 HP, from small backyard ponds to large lakes. Horsepower is only a starting point: the nozzle shape decides whether a motor throws a tall thin column or a wide frothy cone.
Check these before ordering:
- Pond size: spray diameter should stay inside the pond so wind does not drift water onto turf. Shop 1/4 acre pond fountains or 1 acre pond fountains by pond size.

Power, anchoring, and winter

Can a pond fountain aerate my pond on its own?
Not always. A fountain adds oxygen at the surface and keeps the upper water moving, which can be enough for some ponds, but how much aeration a pond needs depends on depth, fish load, and how much the water circulates on its own. For deeper ponds where circulation through the full water column is the goal, a bottom-diffused system is usually the better fit, so compare pond aerators.
