How to choose the right fountain statue

Why a fountain statue suits an outdoor space
A fountain statue gives a garden a focal point that also moves and makes sound. Water falling over tiers, spouts, or a sculpted figure fills a quiet yard and can soften traffic or neighborhood noise.
The figure itself sets the mood of the space.
- Buddha heads, busts, and seated figures suit meditation corners and quiet garden nooks
- lions and classical forms read as old-world garden architecture
- dolphins, koi, sea horses, and birds keep things lighter and more playful
The main types, and when to choose each
PondHaven carries four main formats.
Freestanding and tiered statuary
Multi-tier pieces with sculpted accents, some built on a basin or bowl and some without one.
Choose a freestanding tiered statue when the fountain will stand in an open courtyard, driveway, or lawn and be viewed from several sides.
Wall fountains
Flat-back pieces designed to sit against a wall or fence, including corner models such as the Deruta Lion Corner Wall Fountain.
Choose a wall fountain when ground space is limited and you want to use a blank garden wall or patio backdrop. For more designs like these, see our Lion Outdoor Fountains.
Pond and basin pieces
Some models are named for pond placement, such as the Fiore Stone Large Lion Outdoor Water Fountain For Pond, and our filters mark pieces as Has Pool/Basin or Doesn't Have Pool/Basin.
Choose a pond or basin piece when the sculpture belongs at a pond setting. Check the product page to confirm what the fountain includes before ordering. If your goal is moving and filtering pond water rather than sculpture, a pond aerator or filter system is the more useful category.
Figurative and tabletop pieces
Buddha heads, busts, seated figures, fish motifs, and smaller tiered fountains, including compact tabletop models.
Choose a figurative or tabletop piece when the spot is a porch, a bench area, or a small garden corner and a large statue would overwhelm it. See our Outdoor Buddha Fountains for more figure-based designs.
How to choose the right size and sound level
Height runs from roughly 23-inch wall accents up to estate pieces over 86 inches tall, including a lion fountain that stands 114 inches. Match the fountain to the viewing distance: a small courtyard wall rarely needs a statue sized for a driveway.
For sound, look at the flow style. Bubbler pieces give gentle surface movement, while tiered cascades fall further and make more noise. Our filters mark several multi-tier statues as Loud, which suits yards where masking street sound matters. The Lady Garden Water Fountain is listed at 270 pounds, so check the product page for weight before you plan placement.
Placement, delivery, and care
Cast stone pieces are heavy and need a solid, level spot so the water sits evenly across the tiers. Plan the base before the fountain arrives.
A few things to plan for:
- a level, firm base, usually concrete or well-packed stone, so water sits evenly in the tiers
- a wall or fence built to carry the weight if you are mounting a piece
- clear access for delivery, since the largest estate pieces carry a forklift required tag
Cast stone can crack in freezing weather if it is left full of water. Drain any water, store any pump somewhere dry, and cover the piece before hard freezes. For sizing and setup help beyond this page, see our guide on How to Choose an Outdoor Fountain.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about our statue outdoor fountains.
Does a fountain statue come with its own basin?
Some do and some do not. Our filters mark models as Has Pool/Basin or Doesn't Have Pool/Basin, so use those labels and check the product page to confirm what the fountain includes.
How do I protect a cast stone statue fountain in winter?
Drain the water, store any pump somewhere dry, and cover the statue before freezing weather starts. Water left inside cast stone can expand and crack the piece as temperatures drop.
What kind of wall do I need for a wall fountain?
A wall fountain needs a surface built to carry its weight, so plan on masonry or reinforced framing rather than a fence panel or thin cladding. Check the product page for the piece you want and ask us if the mounting is unclear.
Will I need special equipment to accept delivery?
The largest pieces can carry a forklift required tag on the product page, which means you should arrange equipment or extra help for unloading and placement. Smaller pieces still deserve two people and a clear path to the site.
How loud is the water sound?
It depends on the flow style, since bubbler pieces give a gentle surface sound while tiered cascades fall further and make more noise. If you are weighing two options, send PondHaven your space and the kind of sound you want and we can help you compare.
