Scott Aerator fountains do both, and the balance shifts with the model. Every floating fountain draws pond water up through its motor and shoots it out a nozzle, which agitates and oxygenates the top layer of water as it sprays. The DA-20 and North Star are built aeration-first, moving more water for oxygen than for show, and the North Star pushes about 600 gallons a minute. You size a Scott Aerator fountain based on your pond's acreage and the spray height you want, along a line ranging from 1/3 HP to 3 HP. A 1/3 HP unit covers a half acre or less, while the 3 HP models cover roughly 3 acres, and many buyers size up to a taller display. The motors come in 115V and 230V, and the voltage determines your distance from shore power: 115V units cap out at around 100 to 250 feet from the breaker, depending on horsepower, while 230V units reach 400 feet or more. Measure that run before you order.
Will a Scott Aerator fountain aerate a deep pond?
A Scott Aerator fountain will not aerate a deep pond on its own, because it works the upper layer of water rather than the whole column. University of Florida extension guidance recommends bottom-diffused aeration once a pond reaches about eight feet, since deeper ponds are more likely to stratify into oxygen-rich water on top and oxygen-poor water below, and a fountain cannot mix that.
