Why put a fountain on a pond?
A fountain gives a pond a moving display while circulating and aerating the surface water. That helps where the surface sits still, where algae and floating debris collect, and where the water looks dull.
A fountain tends to help most on:
- ornamental and residential ponds near the house
- farm ponds and small lakes on a property
- HOA, golf course, and commercial retention ponds
- ponds where appearance matters as much as water movement
Circulation happens mostly in the upper water. For deep-water oxygen mixing, compare our Airmax pond aerators, and read our note on whether fountains aerate ponds.
Which Airmax series fits which pond?
All three series float on the surface and move water. What separates them is how they are powered and how they are set up.
Airmax EcoSeries 1/2 HP Pond Fountain
A plug-and-play electric fountain with a 1/2 HP water-cooled motor, tool-free setup, and quick nozzle changes. It runs in as little as 24 inches of water.
Choose the EcoSeries when you have a residential or ornamental pond, mains power close to the water, and shallow water where a bigger unit would sit too low.
Airmax PondSeries Pond Fountain
A high-flow electric fountain built around an oil-free motor with a cooling shroud and an oversized intake screen.
Choose the PondSeries when you want high-flow electric circulation and a motor design made for low-maintenance operation.
Airmax SolarSeries Solar Pond Aerating Fountain
A fountain run entirely on solar power, with no electrical connection needed. It produces full spray patterns in direct sunlight, and the display shifts as light conditions change through the day.
Choose the SolarSeries when the pond sits away from mains power, or when running electrical service to the shore costs more than the fountain itself. We cover the tradeoffs in Are solar pond fountains any good?.
How to choose the right fountain
Four questions usually settle the decision.
- Power access. If there is an outlet near the pond, an electric model is the straightforward choice. If not, the SolarSeries runs without electricity.
- Water depth. Fountains need clearance above the bottom so they do not draw in sediment. The EcoSeries runs in as little as 24 inches of water.
- Sunlight. Solar models rely on direct daytime sun for pattern height and run time, so heavy tree cover over the pond cuts into what they deliver.
- Maintenance. The PondSeries pairs an oil-free motor with an oversized intake screen, which helps keep floating debris from clogging the intake.
Pond shape and size still matter, so it helps to measure the surface area and note any separate basins. Send us those details and we will narrow the options to the right series and model.
Power, depth and placement
Where the unit sits and how it is powered affect the buying choice more than anything else.
- Electric series need power at the pond. Cord lengths and electrical details vary by model, so check the product page before ordering.
- The EcoSeries motor is water-cooled and runs in as little as 24 inches of water, which suits many backyard ponds.
- Solar units want open sky above the pond for the best daytime performance.
- If you need circulation deeper in the water column rather than at the surface, look at Airmax pond aerators instead.
What comes with an Airmax fountain
The EcoSeries and PondSeries each include three spray patterns: Classic, Trumpet, and Crown and Trumpet. The EcoSeries is set up for quick nozzle changes, so switching displays is a simple job.
Other components differ between the electric and solar series, so check each product page for what is in the box before you order.
Not sure which one you need?
Send PondHaven the pond size, water depth, whether power reaches the pond, and roughly how much sun the surface gets. We can tell you which Airmax series fits and point you to the right model.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about our airmax fountains.
Which Airmax fountain series fits my pond best?
Match the series to your power source first. Choose the EcoSeries for a residential pond with mains power and shallow water, the PondSeries when you want high-flow electric operation with an oil-free motor, and the SolarSeries where no electricity reaches the pond.
Do Airmax fountains include different spray nozzles?
The EcoSeries and PondSeries each include three spray patterns: Classic, Trumpet, and Crown and Trumpet, so you can change the display without buying patterns separately. Check the SolarSeries product page for what ships with that model.
What is the minimum water depth for an Airmax fountain?
The EcoSeries runs in as little as 24 inches of water. Depth requirements for the PondSeries and SolarSeries are listed on their product pages, so confirm those before ordering a unit for a shallow pond.
Does the SolarSeries fountain need a backup connection to mains power?
No. It runs on solar power alone and needs no electrical connection. Expect the strongest spray patterns in direct sunlight, with the display responding to changing light through the day.
Can an Airmax fountain replace a bottom-diffused aeration system?
Not usually. A fountain circulates and aerates mainly at the surface, while a bottom-diffused system moves oxygen and water through deeper parts of the pond. For deep ponds or low-oxygen problems, compare our Airmax pond aerators alongside a fountain.
