Scott Aerator Atriarch fountain spraying on a large pond at sunset

2 Acre Pond Fountains

Give a large pond a focal point that also keeps the water moving with a 2 acre pond fountain, which puts a visible spray display on the surface and adds oxygen as it works. On open water, a fountain sized for the job reads clearly from a distance and moves far more water than a small decorative unit.

PondHaven carries Scott Aerator display aerators, fixed-pattern decorative fountains, and multi-nozzle models with interchangeable brass nozzles. Tell us about your pond and we will help you narrow it down.

Guide & FAQ

How to choose the right pond fountain for a large pond

Three things decide most of this: the display you want to see, the water movement you need, and how exposed the site is to wind. Here is what matters before you order.

A pond with a lot of surface area and little natural circulation can develop still patches, surface scum, odors and mosquito breeding, especially in warm weather. Moving the water helps with all of that, and the spray adds oxygen that fish and beneficial bacteria can use.

A floating fountain works at the surface, so it does its best work in the top of the water column. For a closer look at what a fountain does and does not do for water quality, read Do Fountains Aerate Ponds?.

Display aerator

The Scott Aerator DA-20 is a display aerator with a wide trumpet spray. Choose it when water movement matters as much as appearance, or when you are stepping up from a small decorative fountain to something sized for bigger water.

Fixed-pattern decorative fountains

These put one sculpted spray on the pond: the Amherst (multi-tiered), the Clover (multi-stream), the Atriarch and Skyward (V-shaped), the Gusher (a tall vertical column) and the Jet Stream (a tall vertical jet up to 80 feet). Choose one of these when you already know the shape you want and would rather commit to a single display.

Multi-nozzle fountains

The Great Lakes comes with five interchangeable brass nozzles, and the Triad has three: Gusher, Skyward and Cambridge. Choose one of these when you want to change the display for a season or an event without buying more hardware.

Compare the full pond fountains lineup to see every pattern side by side. If you mainly want deep-water circulation and no surface display, a bottom-diffused aeration system may suit the pond better, and Do Fountains Aerate Ponds? explains the difference.

Start with appearance, then check the site.

  • Display versus water movement. A tall column or tiered spray is about visual impact. A display aerator like the DA-20 favors moving water.
  • Wind and open ground. Wide, misting sprays look striking but catch wind on open property, and drift can carry water onto lawns or buildings. Tall narrow columns hold their shape better. The Gusher is built as a wind-resistant vertical column, and the Jet Stream throws a tall, narrow jet.
  • Pattern flexibility. Multi-nozzle models let you swap displays later. Single-pattern models give you one look and no extra hardware to store.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about our 2 acre pond fountains.

Does a floating fountain provide enough aeration for a pond this size, or do I also need a bottom diffuser?

A floating fountain aerates at the surface, so it helps most with circulation and oxygen in the upper water column. If deep-water circulation is the main goal, a bottom-diffused aeration system is usually the better tool, because it moves water from the bottom up. Do Fountains Aerate Ponds? goes deeper on the difference.

Can I leave the fountain in the pond over the winter?

On some models, yes. The Triad, for example, is designed to stay in the water all winter without draining or dismantling. Check the model you are considering before freezing weather arrives, since winter handling is not the same across the lineup.

Which spray patterns handle wind without drifting onto the banks?

Tall, narrow columns resist drift better than wide, misting sprays. The Gusher is built as a wind-resistant vertical column, and the Jet Stream throws a tall vertical jet up to 80 feet. Wide tiered and multi-stream patterns such as the Amherst and Clover look dramatic but are more exposed on windy, open property.

Can I add lighting to these fountains later?

Lighting depends on the model, because the setup and options differ from one fountain to another. Compare our pond fountains with lights, tell us which fountain you are considering, and we will confirm what lighting fits it.
