Why add a fountain?
A fountain gives a space both a sound and a visual anchor. Running water helps cover traffic and neighbor noise, and it gives birds a place to drink and bathe.
Cast stone holds up outdoors and takes sculpted detail well, which suits lawns, courtyards, and walls that need a permanent piece rather than a lightweight accent. Where material matters to you, check the individual product page, since several models are described as fiber-reinforced cast stone concrete and others note cast stone only.
The main types, and when to choose each
Tiered and pond fountains
Choose a tiered or pond fountain when you have open ground and want the water seen and heard from all sides. Pond models sit in a wide basin, and the largest pieces pair tall tiered stacks with 66 to 70 inch ponds.
Wall fountains
Choose a wall fountain when floor space is tight and you have an exterior wall to work with. Many are offered in versions for concrete spillways, bronze spouts, rustic iron spouts, or copper overflow.
Urns, statues, and themed pieces
Choose an urn when you want a gentle overflow rather than a tall drop. Choose a statue fountain when the figure sets the theme, such as lions, Buddhas, mermaids, gargoyles, or putti.
Modern, stone, tabletop, and bird bath pieces
Choose a modern fountain when the architecture is clean-lined and geometric. Stone and rock designs suit naturalized settings, tabletop units fit balconies and covered porches, and bird bath fountains add a shallow tier for birds.
How to pick the right size, sound, and finish
The basin footprint usually matters more than height when you are planning space. A 30 inch patio fountain and a 70 inch pond fountain ask for very different pads.
- Sound level. Tall multi-tier drops give a louder, splashier cascade that helps mask street noise. Single spillways, urns, and low bowls give a softer trickle that suits a seating area.
- Spout style. Concrete spillways, bronze spouts, rustic iron spouts, and copper overflow change both the look and the way the water falls.
- Finish. Cast stone color shifts the whole feel, from aged Old World styling to a cleaner contemporary read. Giannini Garden Finish Samples are physical samples you can hold against siding, pavers, and trim before you order a full piece.
Setup, power, and placement
A fountain needs a level, settled pad, such as a poured concrete slab, stable pavers, or well compacted base. An unlevel pad can make water spill unevenly and put stress on the piece.
- Fountain pumps need outdoor power close by, and a GFCI outlet is the usual setup.
- Self-contained models recirculate their own water, so a garden hose is only needed to top off as water evaporates.
- Larger tiered and pond pieces are flagged forklift required on the product page. Plan the delivery route and unloading before the truck arrives.
- In freezing climates, drain the unit and cover it before hard freezes.
Not sure which one you need?
If one type looks right and you want to compare more of it, PondHaven also groups pieces by category in the Tiered Outdoor Fountains, Wall Fountains, and Outdoor Statue Fountains collections.
Send PondHaven the spot you are working with, tell us if it is open ground or a wall, how much sound you want, and how close power is, and we can point you to the models that fit.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about our giannini garden.
Do these fountains need permanent plumbing?
Most do not. Models marked as self-contained recirculate their own water, so you fill the basin and top it off with a garden hose as water evaporates. A few versions are plumbed to feed an existing pond or a decorative spout instead, so check the product page for that model.
What kind of base do I need before delivery?
A level, settled pad. Poured concrete, stable pavers, or heavily compacted base all work, and the pad should be ready before the piece arrives so it can be set in place.
Which models need a forklift for unloading?
The larger tiered and pond fountains. Those items carry a forklift required flag, so arrange equipment and a clear path for the pallet before the delivery date.
How do I care for one in a freezing climate?
Drain the unit and cover it before the first hard freeze. Freeze and thaw cycles are what put cast stone at risk, so keeping water out of the basin is the main task.
Can I see the finish before buying?
Yes. Giannini Garden Finish Samples are physical samples you can compare against your siding, pavers, and trim. Screen colors shift, so a sample in hand is the more reliable check.
