J2 Outdoors Big Rip 6.5 HP Gas Ice Ripper: Open Water With No Power Hookup
The J2 Outdoors Big Rip is the gas-powered big brother of the 1 HP Ice Ripper. A 6.5 HP Kohler engine turns an aluminum propeller through a 20-foot flexible drive shaft, pushing warmer water up to keep a large area of your pond or hunting hole open all winter. No electrical service is needed.
• No Electricity Needed: Runs on gasoline, so it works on remote ponds and marshes without power.
• Large Open Area: About a 40 × 80 yard hole under normal conditions.
• Working Depth: Effective in 1 to 8 feet of water.
• Land or Floating: Run the engine from shore, or on a float with a built-in 11-gallon tank.

Big Rip Land Model
The engine sits on shore on an 18″ × 18″ × 18″ frame, with the drive shaft running out into the water. It has a 1-gallon tank on the engine plus a fuel pump with 3 ft of 1/4″ fuel line and a quick connect, so you can run it from any auxiliary fuel tank with a 1/4″ female NPT fitting.
Big Rip Floating Model
The engine rides on a 35″ × 35″ × 28″ float (height includes the engine) with an 11-gallon fuel tank built into the float. That is about 22 hours per fill at full throttle and about 48 hours at half throttle. Includes a 5 ft spud pole to anchor the float.

J2 Outdoors Big Rip Safety and Fish Tips
- Keep children and animals away from the unit while it runs.
- Stay out of the water while it runs, and let it stop fully before retrieving it.
- Keep hands and loose clothing away from the propeller.
- Stocked pond? Before the season, run it slowly for no more than 30 minutes a day for at least a week, so a sudden oxygen change does not shock your fish.
