Aquascape Lake Blue Dye Packs

Pond dye is not just cosmetic. Tinting the water blue filters the sunlight that submerged weeds and algae need to photosynthesise, so it suppresses growth at depth without an algaecide. It also cools surface temperature slightly and makes fish considerably harder for herons and other predators to see.

The water-soluble packs dissolve on contact — no pouring, no stained hands, no measuring. Toss them from the bank and they disperse through the water column.

Sizing and coverage

• 1 pack treats up to 1.5 acre-feet
• 4-pack and 16-pack sizes
• Colour typically holds for several weeks depending on rainfall and outflow

Worth knowing

Dye works best as prevention rather than cure. Applied early in the season before weed growth establishes, it suppresses what would otherwise take hold. Applied to an already-choked pond it does much less.

Ponds with significant flow-through will need more frequent dosing, since the dye simply washes out.
